I was influenced to read Airman because I have read other books by Eoin Colfer. When I first pick up the book the cover and title looked interesting. I started to read the book and I really liked how the prologue introduced the story. Once I was past the prologue the book started off really slow but that allowed for the setting and characters to develop a clearer picture in my head. Once some action started to happen I couldn’t put the book down.
I was very confused when Conor was being framed for killing King Nicholas and Victor. When I first read that sentence I didn’t know that Bonvilain dressed Conor up as a soldier and said that his name was Conor Finn. Farther along in the book, Conor had to change his character traits completely to survive when he was sent to jail. When the traits changed it encouraged me to read even more to just see what the new Conor was going to do.
When Conor was in prison it was really interesting to see that Conor became friends with an Irish gang member. Also, it caught my attention seeing how ruthless Conor was when he was stabbing Malarkey inside the bell.
The change that happened to Conor in prison was a really unexpected twist in the book that made Conor grow up faster than he wanted to. It was cool to see that while Conor was in prison, he was able to make a blueprint on the wall and build a flying machine before he escaped prison. I was very happy to see that Conor did end up flying when he escaped prison. Bonvilain was very unhappy to see that Conor escaped. I was not surprised to read that Conor escaped the Little Saltee prison in a balloon.
I was very glad to see how the story ended for Conor. While I was reading the book I learned that when you meet someone new, don’t judge them by their appearance, judge them by their personality. An example of this life lesson would be when Conor is in the Little Saltee prison and he slowly becomes friends with an Irish gang member named Malarkey.
Another thing that I learned while reading the book, that even though you may be in a hard spot in life, if you keep pushing forward something good will happen.
